The Ministry of Transport announced, this Monday, July 7, 2025, the election of Basma Loukil Yaakoubi as president of the board of directors of Tunisair, replacing Habib Mekki. This decision was made after a meeting of the board of directors of the national company.
State representative within the Council on behalf of the Ministry of Finance, Basma Loukil Yaakoubi is currently held the position of Director General of Public Participations in the Ministry of Finance.
The appointment of Basma Loukil Yaakoubi thus intervenes in a pivotal phase for Tunisair, called to turn in depth to regain the confidence of its passengers and its competitiveness on the regional and international market.
Faced with the persistent crisis within Tunisair, marked by multiple flight disruption and an increasing discontent of passengers, the Ministry of Transport published this Saturday a press release on its Facebook page announcing a series of decisions intended to restore confidence in the national company.
The ministry stresses that Tunisair, perceived by many Tunisians as a national symbol, has seen its image seriously deceased in recent weeks, due to repeated inconvenience affecting travelers.
Acting in consultation with the President of the Republic, Kaïs Saïed, the ministry claims to want to “treat everything that hinders the service of the citizen”. Among the measures taken are the revocation of Mr. Habib Mekki from his functions as a representative of the ministry within the board of directors, which automatically leads to his dismissal as chairman of the board of directors.
