The prosecution of the Monastir Court of First Instance ordered the detention of two young men accused of having planned a robbery of a jewelry as well as the kidnapping of a relative of the jeweler against a ransom of approximately 6 million dinars, according to the declarations of Farid Ben Jha, spokesperson for Monastir and Mahdia to Mosaic FM.
According to the information obtained, the agents of the Ksar Helal judicial police brigade learned that two individuals were planning to rob a jewelry in the afternoon or to remove a member of the jeweler’s family, in particular his son or the wife of his brother working in the same store, to demand a ransom.
The chief of the brigade immediately informed the prosecution, which ordered the opening of an investigation. Surveillance has been set up around jewelry stores in downtown Ksar Helal, making it possible to identify and locate the suspects. The police quickly arrested and placed them in police custody.
During interrogations, one of the suspects admitted to having met his accomplice two months ago, the latter having offered to commit a robbery or a kidnapping in the Souk de l’Or in downtown Ksar Helal, with a view to obtaining a ransom of several billion.
The prosecution has ordered their continued detention for “constitution of an association of criminals in order to attack goods and people”. A judicial investigation was opened against them.
