Saturday, April 19, 2025, a new civil protection unit was installed in Mezzouna, in the governorate of Sidi Bouzid, in order to strengthen the proximity of emergency services with the population.
This initiative is part of the decisions taken by the President of the Republic, Kaïs Saïed, during his visit to the region the day before. Colonel Mourad Essaghir, regional director of civil protection in Sidi Bouzid, told the TAP agency that, following a collaboration with the local authorities, a municipal building was renovated and equipped to house this new unit, aimed at improving the responsiveness of emergency services in this area.
In parallel, the municipal authorities undertook the demolition of the rest of the wall of the secondary school in Mezzouna, part of this structure having collapsed earlier this week, causing the death of three students and injuring two others. Habib Rwakk, secretary general of the municipality, said that this demolition operation was necessary to guarantee the security of the population. In addition, he indicated that the day before, the primary school wall had also been demolished and that of Ibn Hazm college would soon be withdrawn.
These works are carried out under the authority of the regional delegation of education, in coordination with the Ministry of Education, and executed by the municipality using its own means.
