Oscar-winning actor Gene Hackman and his wife Betsy Arakawa were found dead at their home in New Mexico, according to Santa Fe Sheriff. No sign of criminal act has been noted, but an investigation is underway to determine the causes of death.
Born in 1930 in California, Hackman had engaged in the army before turning to cinema. His career, which extends over more than six decades, has earned him many distinctions, including two Oscars: Best actor for French Connection (1971) and best supporting role for ruthless (1992). He also marked the cinema with Bonnie and Clyde (1967), Mississippi Burning (1988) and his emblematic role of Lex Luthor in Superman.
Hackman had withdrawn from the cinema in 2004 after welcome to Mooseport, leading from a discreet life to the New Mexico. His death marks the disappearance of an emblematic figure of American cinema.
