Para-athletics: when Tunisian women give a lesson in will and excellence
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

There are victories that go far beyond the medals. That won by the Tunisian female selection of para-athletics, during the 1st female Grand Prix in Olomouc, in the Czech Republic, is one. With ten medals, including seven gold, our athletes did not simply dominate competition: they imposed a vision, a model, an unshakable strength.

Raoua Tlili, Maroua Brahmi, Sonia Mansour, Raja Jebali… These are more than names, these are symbols. Athletes that the world envies us and which, far from the spotlight of spectacle sport, discreetly build an impressive track record. They embody resilience, excellence and commitment, in a country where para-sport still struggles to obtain the recognition it deserves.

What these women accomplish deserves to be seen, supported, celebrated. At a time when speeches on inclusion, equal opportunities and the valuation of female sport are multiplying, Tunisia already has its heroines. And yet, too often, their performance ignores or are relegated to the last line of sports newspapers.

Para-athletics, in Tunisia, is one of the few areas where we can still speak of an excellence policy, with regular results in international competitions. But for how long? Without an increased commitment from the public authorities, without media support up to par, without a real sustainable development plan, these performances will remain isolated exploits where they should be the norm.

This Grand Prix in Czech Republic is a new reminder: the potential is there. The talents are there. The will is there. All that is missing is only a national impulse to give these champions the place they deserve: that of major figures in Tunisian sport, all disciplines combined.

Because their medal is not only shiny metal at the end of a ribbon: it is a victory against prejudices, against forgetting, against indifference. And that, no podium can measure it.

Summary of Tunisian medals:

  • Raoua Tlili: OR at the disc launch (F41) / gold at the weight throw (F41)
  • Maroua Brahmi: Gold at the Massue Lancer (F32) / Or with a weight throw (F32)
  • Raja Jebali: Gold with weight throwing (F40)
  • Sonia Mansour: Gold at 100 meters (T37/T38)/Or at 400 meters (T37/T38)
  • Fathia Amaimia: Silver with disc throw (F41)
  • Yousra Ben Jemaa: Money with the javelin throw (F33/F34)
  • Jihene Azaiez: Silver at the weight throwing (F45/F46)
