The KEF governorate is preparing to take a new stage in its tourism development. The Minister of Tourism and Crafts, Sofiene Tekaya, announced, Sunday, May 11, the imminent creation of a 30 hectare tourist area in the city of Kef, intended to strengthen the attractiveness of the region.

This announcement was made on the sidelines of the 35th edition of the “Mayyou” cultural festival, organized by the Kef city backup association, reports the TAP. The project provides for the development of hotels, guest houses, classified restaurants as well as other infrastructure intended to improve the capacity and the quality of the services offered to visitors.

A special commission will be set up to develop an integrated development program. It will bring together administrations, investors, experts from the sector and representatives of civil society through study days. The objective: to develop an ambitious action plan to structure the tourist offer around the cultural and heritage assets of the KEF.

The Minister underlined the growing interest of investors for the region, doped in particular by the recent creation of a tourist circuit. He also welcomed the enthusiasm of many young people, wishing to launch community companies in the tourism sector.

Optimistic about the current tourist season, Sofiene Tekaya qualified it “exceptional”, in view of the volume of reservations recorded, both nationally and international.

From a broader perspective, the ministry provides for the creation of new tourist units throughout the North West. In addition, a regulatory framework has been set up to integrate the 2,000 guest houses already active in the region, via a specific specifications.

Finally, this strategy is part of a global revitalization plan for the sector, including the sustainable revival of Tabarka International Airport, with the aim of ensuring regular service and supporting the tourism development of the North West.
