Three deaths in Soliman, a family drama in Mahdia, a little girl who is still missing in Kélibia… summer 2025 begins in pain with a series of tragic drownings. Faced with this recurring phenomenon, the authorities call for vigilance.
While the summer season is in full swing, the Tunisian beaches are bereaved by a series of tragic drownings, which remind, once again, the dangers of swimming at sea, particularly in areas not monitored or subjected to unfavorable weather conditions.
In Soliman, in the governorate of Nabeul, the civil protection units drafted, Sunday June 29 in the morning, the bodies of two young men, from Grombalia, died drowned the day before. Research lasted several hours, slowed down by a restless sea and strong winds. The day before, a 17 -year -old teenager also died on the same beach, swept away by the currents.
Over the coast of Kélibia, operations continue to find a little girl under the age of five, who disappeared on Saturday when she was playing on an inflatable buoy. According to initial information, it was taken offshore by currents. Research is carried out by teams from the French Navy, Maritime Guard and Civil Protection.
Still Sunday, in Mahdia, a 19 -year -old woman was found dead drowned in an unleashed rocky area in the Corniche. This same area had been the scene of another family drama, which cost three members of the same family from Moknine last week.
These repeated tragedies are unfortunately not new. Each summer, drowning cases are multiplying, especially in unsecured beaches, where help are often alerted too late. The Mediterranean Sea, apparently calm, can become formidable under the effect of winds and currents.
Faced with this resurgence, the Ministry of Health has appealed to vigilance, in particular for families. In a press release published on Sunday, he insisted on the crucial role of parents in the protection of their children. Among the recommendations:
- Never let a child bathe alone, whether at sea or in the pool;
- Permanently monitor the children, without being distracted by a phone or discussions;
- Favor monitored beaches and respect the signaling flags;
- Learn to swim to children from an early age;
- Secure private swimming pools using suitable barriers and closures.
If summer is synonymous with relaxation for many, there remains a period at high risk on Tunisian coasts. The rehearsal of these dramas highlights the urgency of a real culture of prevention, on an individual and collective scale. Otherwise, the sea will continue to swallow up too young every year to disappear.
