The Manouba region was the scene of a terrible drama during the past weekend. The calcined body of lawyer Mongia Manai was discovered in the waters of the Medjerda canal, behind the local sports complex. The shock was all the greater since suspicion is on members close to his family.
During a telephone intervention on Jawhara FM, Gaith Hamami, the victim’s nephew, revealed that the ex-husband of the deceased, one of his sons as well as a third individual-tenant of a service station belonging to him-were arrested as part of the investigation. The second son is on the run.
According to Gaith Hamami, the victim’s two sons are twins born in 1993, continuing their studies abroad in the fields of medicine and engineering. He also clarified that their relations with their father, the ex-husband of the victim, were very narrow. One of the sons would have recognized the facts during his arrest, while the other would have left the country before the discovery of the body.
The results of the technical and scientific expertise carried out after the discovery of the body confirmed that it was the known lawyer in Oued Ellil. The public prosecutor of the Manouba Court of First Instance ordered the opening of a judicial information on Saturday, the lifting of the body for autopsy at the Charles-Nicolle hospital and the investigation of the case by the third investigating judge of the same court. The Manouba National Guard’s research and investigation brigade was responsible for the investigation.
The first elements suggest a premeditated criminal act. Traces of blood and burned clothes found at the victim come to strengthen this hypothesis.
