After having crossed with difficulty the first round of qualifying for the WTA 500 tournament in Berlin, Ons Jabeur is preparing to challenge the Chinese Wang Xinyu this Sunday to try to access the main draw.
Yesterday, the Tunisian player, currently 54th in the world, had to draw on her reserves to overcome the French Elsa Jacquemot (113rd). Led after the loss of the first set (4-6), Jabeur managed to reverse the trend by winning 7-5 in the second round, before winning the third set in Tie-Break (7-6), after saving two match balls.
This Sunday, a new challenge awaits him against Wang Xinyu, ranked 48th in the WTA ranking. The Chinese qualified by beating the Australian Talia Gibson in three sets also (3-6, 7-6, 7-5), which announces a tight confrontation between two players looking for recovery on lawn.
For jabeur, this tournament has a special flavor: she had raised the trophy there in 2022 after defeating Belinda Bencic in the final. This 2025 edition could thus mark the start of a return to fit, in a tournament where it has already been successful.
