Rayen Khlifi, a 19 -year -old young man incarcerated for an alleged drug -related consumption, was released this Wednesday morning from Bizerte civil prison.
His release was confirmed by his mother, joined by the TAP agency, who said that family members and her lawyer, Me Rihab Smaali, were present at his release.
At the beginning of May, this case had aroused broad media and associative attention after suspicions of ill -treatment and torture in detention. These accusations had been relayed by Me Smaali in a publication which led several human rights organizations to claim the opening of an investigation.
The Ministry of Justice had quickly reacted by denying these allegations. In a statement, he assured that the detainee had been examined by a representative of the public prosecutor, who noticed any trace of violence.
In addition, the general inspection of prisons conducted its own investigation, questioning the different parties concerned, without finding evidence of ill -treatment.
