This Thursday, July 3, a man attacked several passengers aboard an Intercity-Express (ICE) train connecting Hamburg to Vienna. The attack occurred while the train crossed Bavaria, in southeast Germany. Four people were slightly injured.
Around 1:55 p.m., the suspect assaulted travelers with an ax. Several passengers then united to master it. They also activated the emergency brake, which allowed the train to stop on a free path.
Police, firefighters and emergency teams from Deutsche Bahn quickly intervened. The suspect, injured during the altercation, was transported by helicopter to the hospital. The authorities are still investigating to understand the exact circumstances of the attack.
Some media evoke a Syrian origin for the attacker, but the police have not confirmed it.
This attack has occurred while Germany faces several stabbing assaults in recent months. Some have been linked to jihadist acts or far -right violence. On May 23, a knife attack at Hamburg station had twelve injured.
