The Portuguese international striker Diogo Jota died in a road accident in Spain on the night of July 2 to 3, 2025. Aged 28, the Liverpool player had just married. His brother André, also a footballer, lost his life by his side.

The world of football is struck by terrible news. Diogo Jota, Liverpool striker and the Portuguese selection manager, died in a car accident on the night of July 2 to 3, 2025 near Zamora, Spain. His younger brother, André Jota, player of the Portuguese club in Penafiel, also died in the accident.

According to the first elements reported by the local authorities and the Spanish media, the vehicle would have left the road at high speed after the bursting of a tire before bambooing. The emergency services arrived on site could only note the deaths.

Diogo Jota, 28, had just celebrated his marriage on June 22 with Rute Cardoso, with whom he had three children. His brutal disappearance leaves his family, his teammates and his supporters in immense pain.

Jota joined Liverpool in 2020. With the Reds, he had scored 65 goals in 182 games. In selection, he had 49 appearances in the Portugal jersey and had participated in Euro 2024.
